Library

The relocation of Troon Library has meant that we can no longer offer a dedicated Family History Library to our members. We still hold some items as listed below. Any member wishing to consult them should contact the Publications Team by email.

Our holdings include Family Histories, Ayrshire History, Social History, Occupations, Trade and Travel. We also have copies of Family History Journals from Scotland and elsewhere as well as Monumental Inscriptions and Deaths and Burials in the OPRs. Some indexed Valuation Rolls of Troon are in our library for consultation only.

Dunlop gravestone with incscription in Troon. — Troon is famous as a smuggling centre in the late 18th Century. One of the leading lights in the trade was David Dunlop who is buried in Dundonald Churchyard. His gravestone is pictured above. and is one of the illustrations in our publication ‘Dundonald Parish Church Memorial Inscriptions’. For the story of the Troon smuggling trade see ‘The Loans Smugglers’ by Frances Wilkins published by Ayrshire Archaeological and Natural History Society in 2008.
